Not every guy gets their first pick in the dating field. You might want tall, brunette, and intelligent but often times you can get just about the opposite. Some might consider you lucky if you can get a young sexy woman who’s barely legal. At first it will seem awesome. She’s perky in all of the right places, giggly, and knows how to have fun. But after a while things might start going south. She won’t care about your age or even that you have very little in common, but she will start acting her own age. What does that mean, exactly?
Be Prepared for Whining
An immature young woman isn’t going to have the logic or reason that older women posses. There may not even be a lot of it then, but at least it’s there. She’ll want to complain or whine about all of those stupid things that you’ve already gone through. Maybe she’s got a dead end job or her friends ditched her for a party last week. To you it seems totally trivial but for her it’s the end of the world. She might even start to whine about you not spending time or money on her.
What You Can Do About It
Take all of this with a grain of salt. If she really is something you want to hold on to then you’re going to have to try to remember what it was like to be 19. It sucked because you’re barely an adult but no one takes you seriously. That was frustrating, right? Well it still is for her. Just try to listen without getting too irritated.
Avoid giving her advice to get out of her problems. A simple, “Why don’t you look for another job?” is fine, but going any further than that is going to do damage. Being an older man who’s trying to help her solve her problems is going to make you look more like a grandpa than a lover.
Be Prepared for the Generation Gap
Even if you aren’t decades older than her you’re going to experience the generation gap. Five years could do it for some people, especially depending on where you grew up. The two of you might have different tastes in music, movies, or hobbies. Being the young thing that she is, she’s probably going to point out these differences and blame them on your age. She’ll also be less open minded about trying stereotypical older things like golfing or watching old movies.
What You Can Do About It
She might have a point with the different ideas of fun, but there’s nothing wrong with that. To keep a good thing going you’ve got to try each other’s hobbies. Even if she gives your old black and white’s a once over and hates them, at least she tried. You also might not be the best hip hop dancer that’s existed, but at least you gave it a shot. It’s not the differences that will ruin things; it’s the unwillingness to try.
