One important aspect of the dating scene is making sure that you present yourself in the best way possible. Unfortunately, that usually includes your fashion choices. Fashion tends to be difficult to understand even for women, but fashion works to their advantage because they have such a broader range of choices. For men, it can be much more difficult to know what will look good on you and what will make you look extremely silly or just plain terrible. Fashion trends come and go, and sometimes it can be difficult to know what will stay popular or what will go out of style faster than you can blink.
Trends That Seem Over the Top
Just because your favorite celebrity or singer has decided that drop-waist metallic pants or socks with clogs is the latest fashion does not mean that you should, too. If a trend seems like it would be better fitted for a modern art museum or on a ridiculous high-fashion runway, then it is definitely something you should avoid. You should remember that most celebrities have stylists that choose what they wear, and more often than not it winds up being ridiculous. It works for them because they’re famous and they don’t really have a choice, but you probably won’t be able to pull off the same fashion trend. You should avoid anything that seems ridiculously over the top or eccentric.
Anything You Consider Silly
You are sometimes your own worst critic, but at the same time you should heavily rely on your gut instinct in most matters. You should trust your gut when it comes to fashion trends. If you see the latest style and think it looks ridiculous, then chances are that it really is ridiculous and it will wind up being the next 90s neon jogging shorts. You should stay away from anything that you would be too embarrassed to wear, and you should especially run far away from anything that you would be too embarrassed to even see a stranger wearing. With any luck, the trend will pass and you can stay cool and fashionable in your usual clothing style.
Trends That Come out of Nowhere
Some trends can be a real flash in the pan – they explode in popularity overnight, and they last a month or two before nobody even remembers that it used to be cool. If you see a trend that seems to pop up overnight, you should avoid it like the plague and refuse to conform. The chances are high that the trend won’t last very long. If you go out on the dating scene conforming to each trend you come across, you’ll just seem like you conform to anything that society claims is cool – and women will most likely not be impressed by that kind of lack of originality. Your best bet is to observe trends that seem more subtle and widespread, and gradually conform to those styles instead of letting overnight fads take your style hostage.
